Back at the beginning of April, when my granddaughter was bringing back fair gear, she was startled by this chicken nesting with three eggs, close to the water hose, on top of the platform for the doggy tub. A few days later she was moved down to under it. Then she was gone? I had no idea where she went. Never knew chickens moved eggs, so during our grandma day lunch she googled it. Yep, it's rare, but some have seen it. Wow, we have too!
The story doesn't end there.
Yesterday, while getting dressed, I kept hearing chirping. Upon investigating, I was attacked by this chicken! She came flying off the wall and at me. She then went into the tub. Yep, she had moved her eggs, and she's laid more, 13 in total! Six have hatched. I never looked in there because it had bamboo fencing on top of it, with scrap pipe holding it down. We deliberately laid it there so leaves wouldn't fill the tub during the fall. I guess she figured out how to get under it!
Now what? How will the babies get out? She won't let me near it at all!
Will keep you posted. |
